Lament for Haiti

by Rev. Kirby Williams

A Biblical liturgical response to the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti, 1/12/10.

Text: Psalms 42:1-11
Date: 01/17/2010, the Contemporary service.

In response to the devastating earthquake that destroyed Port Au Prince, Haiti on January 12, 2010, pastor Kirby dedicated the worship service as a lament to Haiti. In Scripture, when such disasters happened, like when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BC, the people of God cried out in lament and turned to God with their suffering. In the face of this calamity of Biblical proportions, the congregation of New Hope Community Church did the same-- we turned to God with praise and worship, but also with our cries of anguish and prayers for comfort for those who were suffering so deeply, looking to Him only for our hope.
