Lessons In Thankfulness
by Rev. Kirby Williams
Learning how to be truly thankful from Scripture.
Text: Luke 17:11-19, Luke 18:9-14, Acts 5:40-42
Date: 11/23/2017, the Thanksgiving service.
Occasion: Thanksgiving
Description:
In this Thanksgiving Day meditation we will turn to three stories from Scripture-- all written by the hand of Luke. Two of the stories are found in his Gospel, while the third comes from the Book of Acts. Each lesson will teach us something about true thankfulness, by giving both positive and negative examples. From a mockery of thankfulness on one extreme, to a truly radical thankfulness on the other, we will learn from our three texts that that true thankfulness is selfless and humble, fixated on God, and wrapped in the acknowledgment of His sovereignty and grace. But most importantly, we will learn if we leave Christ out of our thanksgiving, we have no right to call it Thanksgiving at all!
